Meeting of May 30, 2007

Greeter: John Phillips

Presiding: President Darla

Menu: Meat Loaf, Cheezy Potatoes, Green Beans, Roll & Butter, Cheesecake w/ Strawberry Glaze

Invocation: Lee Miller

Songs: America, the Beautiful
Rotary (Flags of many nations ...)

Visitors:

Guests: Andy, Scott and Brittany Akins

Announcements:
  • John Phillips brought to the attention of the membership that a picture just outside the meeting room shows buggy tracks in the snow ... without hoofprints. What can this mean?
  • Coin boxes for the Rotary Foundation are still being accepted.
  • Shasta (Dictionary Project): Nice thank-you note (see below) received from Flat Ridge school. It reads: "Dear Rotary Members, Thank you for the Webster's Thesaurus for Students. We have learned about synonyms and antonyms this year. Sometimes we use it for Hink Pinks. We appreciate your gift. Sincerely, Flat Ridge 3A"
We have since found that:

"Hink pinks are riddles. The answers to the riddles are words that rhyme with each other and contain the same amount of syllables.

    • Hink pinks have 1 syllable answers.
    • A hinky pinky has 2 syllable answers.
    • A hinkity pinkty has 3 syllable answers."
  • Arlene (Youth Exchange): Andy will be away for his trip on June 9.
  • There is to be a hog roast at John Mathie's place on June 8 in Andy and Breezy's honor.
  • Signups circulated for the Relay for Life Chicken BBQ
  • There will be a benefit auction to benefit Rails to Trails on June 16 at 9:00 A.M.
Sergeant at Arms: Tom Rumbaugh collected extra fines, which were dedicated as spending money for Andy.

There will be no noon meeting June 6; meet at John Mathie's June 8 at 6:00 P.M.

Program:
Arlene Radden sponsored Andy in his farewell performance. Andy gave, in his own inimitable style, a recapitulation of all the places he's been and the people he's seen while with us here in Millersburg. He wants us to be very certain to remember that he doesn't come from Czechoslovakia, which no longer exists, but rather the Czech Republic. He showed us pictures of his wanderings to Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington, New York City. He told of going to Youth Exchange meetings where there were "Outbounds, inbounds, and rebounds".
