Robin & Carol's Excellent Adventure, Part I

At the 6/13/2007 meeting, we received a note from Robin Hauenstein which reads as follows:

Dear Rotarians and Directors:

Thanks you for helping me take this trip to SLC [Salt Lake City] for the 2007 convention. I am extremely grateful and humbled by the club's generosity in covering my registration fee. Thank you. Thanks to Arlene & John P. for their words of wisdom and Darla and Rob for their encouragement and support. I should be on my way between Denver & SLC between the time of the board meeting and regular club meeting. I'm not going alone but as a representative of this club. Thanks again.

Robin

On the following day, Thursday, June 14, Robin sent an email to her friends, including the Mbg Rotary club. Excerpts follow:

I won't bore you with all the well, boring details about this RI Convention trip to SLC. Just some. And you can talk freely amongst yourselves about it. We travelled 600 miles today, starting at 5am, and getting up at 355am. its been a long day, and I had witty funny things to tell you, but I'm too damn tired.

Flights were fine. There were 2 rotaracters behind us from Denver to SLC, talking and we chatted about the convention. We were told at rental car and hotel that the city is expected to see several thousand of us. there are banners all over town. I have met some in the airport at Salt Lake and Bryce Canyon today.

When I booked this trip on priceline, the rental choice was pee wee for economy. So I chose a size bigger. we have, as Carol groaned when we picked it up, "Nee Nee's car. I hate that car." Nee Nee being the name my niece and nephew use for my mother and her car being a Ford 500. Its a freaking tank. A TANK. and I'm responsible for gas, which ranges from 317 to 349. I hate that. Sucks. I guess that cuts into my tacky souvenir buying program.

..........

Rock on. My work starts saturday afternoon with training and then I work as a volunteer for 9 hours early sunday and monday.
